Its historic dining rooms, famous ceiling lined with thousands of churchwarden pipes, and classic steakhouse experience continue to draw packed crowds and hard-to-get reservations.

Eater praises the restaurant’s expertly prepared steaks and chops, while noting that its ice-cold martini remains an essential part of the meal.

Gabriel’s Stays Open

One of Central Park South’s longtime dining destinations has avoided closing after resolving a rent dispute with its landlord.

Gabriel’s Bar & Restaurant has settled the disagreement that led to an eviction case, allowing the Northern Italian restaurant to remain at its current location.

The dispute centered on unpaid rent and other charges, but both sides have now reached an agreement and the legal case is being dismissed.

Gabriel’s has welcomed prominent political, business, and media figures over the years and has remained a well-known destination since relocating to Central Park South in 2019.

After overcoming pandemic-related challenges and now resolving its lease issues, the restaurant will continue serving diners from its iconic spot overlooking Central Park.

Rosa Mexicano Expands

One of New York’s most recognizable Mexican restaurant brands is preparing to open a new home in the Theater District this September.

The latest Rosa Mexicano location will feature a spacious dining room, an outdoor patio, and the restaurant’s signature menu of tableside guacamole, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, and its well-known frozen pomegranate margarita.

The opening will also introduce The Pink Door by Rosa Mexicano, a new fast-casual concept offering grab-and-go meals in a separate courtyard space.

Design elements from the original Lincoln Center restaurant, including its iconic “divers wall,” will be incorporated into the new location.

The expansion marks another milestone for the 42-year-old brand as it continues to grow while honoring the identity that has made it a longtime New York dining favorite.

August’s Fresh Openings

August is already bringing another exciting lineup of restaurant openings to New York City, with everything from neighborhood pizzerias to international dining concepts.

One of the standout debuts is Jules Pizza in Bensonhurst, opened by a Brooklyn father and his teenage son, serving pizzas, calzones, pasta, and more.

Queens is welcoming Thai Niyom in Astoria with a halal Thai menu, while Guac N' Bubble is introducing a unique mix of Mexican food and bubble tea in College Point.

Other newcomers include Rossa Cafe in Koreatown, Apapachó in Park Slope, Bernie and Herb’s near Union Square, and Goop Kitchen’s first walk-in location on the Upper East Side.

Familiar Favorites Return

Several well-known names are making headlines as New York’s restaurant scene continues to evolve this summer.

Mary’s Fish Camp has reopened in the West Village at a new Hudson Street location, bringing the beloved seafood restaurant back after closing its original home in 2024.

Massara has also returned to its original Flatiron space following a year-long relocation after a fire and is kicking off a summer pizza collaboration series with guest pizzaioli.

Elsewhere, Saverne has reopened in Hudson Yards, Goop Kitchen is preparing its first physical storefront on the Upper East Side, and new restaurant projects continue to take shape across the city.
