New York City’s dining scene is entering another busy stretch, with summer events, new restaurant concepts, closures, and major policy changes reshaping the city’s food landscape.

Outdoor dining is getting a major boost after the City Council voted to allow restaurants to operate outdoor dining year-round, including winter coverings and expanded roadway cafes.

Meanwhile, Crane Club is preparing to launch Bar CC, an intimate 25-seat cocktail bar in September, led by mixologist Harrison Ginsberg.

Ambassadors Clubhouse has temporarily closed after a fire broke out at the NoMad restaurant on August 13, with no injuries reported.

Elsewhere, Taïm appears to have closed its four NYC locations, while iDen’s Beijing Duck House is preparing to take over the former La Grenouille space in Midtown.

With new openings, unexpected closures, and changing dining rules, NYC’s restaurant scene continues to evolve at a rapid pace.

NYC’s Week of Food, Festivals & Fun

New York City is packed with things to do this week, from outdoor celebrations to food-focused events and cultural experiences.

NYC Summer Streets is opening more than 20 miles of city roads to pedestrians, cyclists, skaters, fitness classes, performances, and other activities.

For food lovers, NYC Restaurant Week continues through August 16, with hundreds of restaurants offering prix-fixe menus.

The Blues BBQ Festival returns to Pier 76 on August 15 for its 26th year, bringing barbecue vendors, live blues, and family-friendly activities.

Other highlights include Misty Copeland’s Ballet Festival, the Battery Dance Festival, the International Puppet Fringe Festival, and MoMA PS1 Warm Up.

With summer events happening across the city, this week offers plenty of opportunities to combine NYC’s food scene with culture, entertainment, and outdoor fun.

Crane Club’s Exclusive New Bar

Meatpacking District hotspot Crane Club is preparing to open a new cocktail bar called Bar CC in September during New York Fashion Week.

The new spot will be led by Harrison Ginsberg, the mixologist behind Overstory and Crown Shy.

Tao Group’s Noah Tepperberg described Ginsberg as a highly talented mixologist known for using a wide range of ingredients in his drinks.

Bar CC will take over the former Mel’s Pizzeria space, which Tepperberg called a “legendary” location that previously housed The John Dory.

With just 25 seats, the bar is expected to be an intimate and highly exclusive destination with limited reservations.

The space will also feature a wine room designed for fully private dinners accommodating up to 12 guests.

The combination of a small capacity, ambitious cocktails, and private dining is set to make Bar CC one of the season’s closely watched new arrivals.

Outdoor Dining Gets a Year-Round Green Light

New York City restaurants will once again be able to offer outdoor dining throughout the year after the City Council voted to reverse seasonal restrictions.

The new rules allow restaurants to use winter coverings from November 30 through March 31 and expand the program to roadway cafes.

The change is intended to reduce the costs and logistical burden of dismantling and storing outdoor dining setups each winter.

The legislation passed with strong support, including a 38-4 vote for winter coverings and a 37-5 vote to expand roadway cafes.

Restaurants will still face an 11 p.m. closing time for sidewalk cafes and must keep outdoor structures free of trash, debris, graffiti, food scraps, and vermin.

Three violations for the same offense within two years can result in losing outdoor dining privileges.

Ambassadors Clubhouse Shuttered After Fire

A fire has temporarily closed Ambassadors Clubhouse, the high-end Indian restaurant in NoMad that opened earlier this year.

The fire broke out on August 13 at the restaurant’s location on Broadway, prompting an “all-hands” response from the New York City Fire Department.

The restaurant was closed when the fire occurred, and no injuries were reported.

Ambassadors Clubhouse said it will remain closed until the team determines that it is safe to reopen.

The incident has already affected reservations, with at least one booking for August 14 reportedly canceled.

The restaurant, part of the JKS group, had quickly attracted attention since opening in January and shares its building with A24’s New York headquarters.

For now, diners will have to wait for the restaurant to announce when it can safely welcome guests back.

Big Changes Across NYC Dining

New York’s restaurant scene is seeing a busy mix of closures, new openings, and major changes this August.

Taïm, the pioneering falafel chain, appears to have closed all four of its NYC locations amid reported tax issues involving its parent company.

Meanwhile, iDen’s Beijing Duck House is preparing to open in the former La Grenouille space in Midtown, bringing upscale Chinese dining and Beijing duck to East 52nd Street.

Queens is also losing the more-than-100-year-old Manor Delicatessen, which is scheduled to close August 21.

Grand Central is set for new dining additions, including the planned 250-seat Osteria Centrale.

Elsewhere, BEM in Bed-Stuy has shifted into a cultural foundation, while Parcelle Wine’s Greenwich Village space is set to become Vodka Bar.

The latest developments highlight just how quickly NYC’s dining landscape continues to change.
