And Grub Street’s Top July 2026 Restaurant Recommendations

Good Morning NY!

Today, we’re serving up the latest wave of restaurant openings, must-visit dining recommendations, and noteworthy changes across New York City’s food scene.

We’ll take a look at some of the city’s hottest new spots, along with a fresh roundup of restaurants earning rave reviews this month.

There’s also a mix of exciting restaurant news, from special events and expansions to unique concepts making their debut around the city.

Not every story is about a new beginning, though, as we’re also covering several notable closures that mark the end of an era for some local favorites.

Plus, we’re spotlighting a stunning new dining destination where great food comes paired with one of the city’s best views.

July’s Restaurant Closures

Not every restaurant story this month is about a grand opening, as several familiar NYC spots have closed their doors.

In Crown Heights, Agi’s Counter has shut down after ongoing flooding and building issues made it impossible to continue operating.

East Village sushi spot Temakase has also closed, though it plans to reopen in Soho in the future.

Long Island City said goodbye to Levante, a Neapolitan pizzeria that spent a decade building a loyal following.

Hand Hospitality also closed Towa and its Nomad outpost of Okonomi Yuji Ramen, although the ramen brand will continue operating from Brooklyn.

It’s a reminder that even in one of the world’s busiest dining scenes, every new opening is often balanced by a heartfelt goodbye.

Grub Street’s Top July 2026 Restaurant Recommendations

Grub Street has released its monthly “Where to Eat in July” guide for 2026.

Claudette in Greenwich Village has reopened in its original space after a two-year absence.

Chef Igor Almeida Cabral has shifted to a purely Provençal menu.

Standout dishes include moules gratinées, lamb caillettes, herb-y zucchini flowers, and seasonal fruit galette.

Capitaine in the West Village has replaced Libertine as a seafood tavern.

The menu features spicy sea-scallop crudo, lobster roll with hollandaise, Wagyu burgers, and a baby-gem salad with boquerones and “ranchovy” dressing.

The guide also mentions additional new openings including Graciela, Trudie’s Tavern, Voodoo Doughnut, and Titán.

This monthly roundup serves as a helpful resource for diners seeking current recommendation.

July’s Freshest Openings

July is already shaping up to be another exciting month for New York’s dining scene, with a fresh batch of restaurants, bars, and food halls opening across the city.

One of the most creative newcomers is Unnecessary, an ice cream shop from the team behind Double Chicken Please serving both alcoholic and nonalcoholic soft-serve flavors.

Brooklyn has also welcomed Bark Barbecue, where Dominican influences meet Central Texas barbecue.

In Chelsea, Shawarma & Co. is introducing Syrian flavors, while Lost Borough Ice Cream Co. has expanded with a second location in Inwood.

New additions also include Grimm Tavern in Brooklyn, Roll Over Kimbap near Union Square, and Shaver Hall, a Midtown food hall with multiple vendors.

From inventive desserts and global street food to craft beer and barbecue, July’s openings prove there’s no shortage of new places to explore across NYC.
