And Philly’s Fried Chicken Lands in Brooklyn

Good Morning NY!

Today, we’re covering the latest developments shaping New York City’s restaurant scene, from policy changes that could benefit local businesses to another wave of exciting new openings.

We’re also highlighting a popular food giveaway that’s sure to draw hungry crowds and celebrate a growing restaurant chain’s newest NYC location.

Across the city, fresh restaurants continue to debut with everything from global flavors to neighborhood favorites, giving diners even more reasons to explore.

Beyond New York, we’re looking at a major restaurant industry shake-up as a well-known national chain restructures its business for the future.

And Brooklyn is welcoming a cult-favorite fried chicken spot from Philadelphia, adding another buzzworthy destination for comfort food lovers this summer.

Outdoor Dining Could Get Easier

The plan aims to shorten the approval process from roughly eight months to as little as three to four-and-a-half months.

City officials say the changes are intended to simplify applications for sidewalk and roadway dining while reducing unnecessary delays.

Many restaurant owners have welcomed the proposal, saying the current system is costly, time-consuming, and difficult to navigate.

Some operators, however, believe additional reforms will still be needed to lower expenses and encourage broader participation.

The proposals are expected to head to voters on the November ballot if approved, meaning any new rules would not take effect until at least 2027.

For New York’s restaurant industry, the changes could represent an important step toward a more accessible outdoor dining program.

Free Burgers This Friday

Burger fans have a reason to head to the East Village this Friday as Skinny Louie celebrates the opening of its newest NYC location.

The new outpost on Second Avenue marks Skinny Louie’s fourth location in New York City, joining its existing restaurants in NoMad, the West Village, and the Upper East Side.

Anyone who misses the giveaway can still order from the restaurant’s regular menu once doors open.

The expansion isn’t stopping there, with additional locations already planned for Penn Station and Park Slope later this year.

As the chain continues to grow across the city, this grand opening offers one of the tastiest free food events of the summer.

July’s Dining Boom

New York’s restaurant scene continues to grow this July with an impressive mix of new openings across the five boroughs.

Among the biggest debuts is Graciela, a West Village steakhouse from Michelin-starred restaurateur Pablo Rivero that celebrates Argentine live-fire cooking.

NoMad has welcomed Mūje, where chef Jungsik Yim is serving an upscale pan-Asian menu, while Tin’s has opened on the Lower East Side with Shanghai-style dumplings and other Chinese-inspired dishes.

Queens is adding new flavors with Burmese Bites in Astoria and Kostantina Frozen Yogurt in Forest Hills.

Brooklyn’s Flamingo Baby Brunch & Bar is bringing Caribbean soul food to Park Slope, while Midtown has gained the new karaoke cocktail lounge Chamber.

From Japanese-Latin bars and Chinese-inspired tacos to bakery expansions and airport outposts, July’s newest openings highlight the incredible variety that keeps NYC’s dining scene constantly evolving.

Cracker Barrel Restructures

Cracker Barrel is making major changes to its business by exiting the Maple Street Biscuit Company brand as part of a broader restructuring plan.

The company has sold 35 Maple Street locations to Biscuit Belly, which plans to convert them to its own brand over the next 18 to 24 months.

The remaining 16 Maple Street Biscuit Company restaurants will permanently close.

Cracker Barrel also completed a sale-leaseback deal involving 26 restaurants, generating about $77 million to help reduce debt while continuing to operate those locations.

Company leaders say the moves are designed to strengthen the balance sheet and sharpen the focus on the core Cracker Barrel brand.

The restructuring marks a significant shift for the restaurant chain as it looks to improve profitability and streamline its operations in the years ahead.

Philly’s Fried Chicken Lands in Brooklyn

Love & Honey Fried Chicken is opening near Barclays Center, bringing its cult-favorite recipe across state lines.

The restaurant has built its reputation on buttermilk fried chicken that’s brined, hand-breaded, and cooked fresh to order instead of prepared in advance.

The menu will feature signature fried chicken alongside sandwiches, tenders, wings, biscuits, mac and cheese, coleslaw, fries, and other Southern-inspired favorites.

Since opening in Philadelphia in 2017, Love & Honey has earned a loyal following and widespread recognition for its approach to fried chicken.

Its arrival adds another exciting destination to Brooklyn’s fast-growing food scene and gives New Yorkers a chance to see what all the hype is about.
